SAREC is committed to intervening when race-related incidents occur in the classroom and on campus by offering campus resources to help address and reduce such incidents in the classroom. The Inclusion and Diversity Committee (IDC) of the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) is comprised of a community of staff and faculty that can be used to channel your concerns to departments on campus that address inequity. Upon submitting a complaint, a member from the IDC will follow up with an email providing you with resources and connecting you with people who can help address a critical race incident. This form is being offered through SAREC to help students and members who experience critical race incidents on campus and who may not have the proper resources or knowledge on how to address an incident.
A critical race incident is a race-related exchange that is significant to you and bystanders who witness the event. It is often an event which makes you stop and think, or one that raises questions for you. It may make you question an aspect of your beliefs, values, attitude or behavior. It is an incident that in some way has had a significant impact on your personal and professional learning.
